The Anzac class frigates are Australia's upgraded MEKO 200-derived general-purpose escorts. CEAFAR/CEAMOUNT sensors, Saab 9LV, ESSM, Harpoon, MU90 torpedoes, Nulka and MH-60R operations keep the class useful for escort, maritime-security and ASW tasks while replacement plans mature. The class remains an important bridge between Australia's older surface force and the future frigate/destroyer mix.
