Public summary
The Renhai Type 055 class is the PLAN's largest modern surface combatant and a centerpiece of blue-water task-group escort. A large universal vertical-launch battery, phased-array radar and integrated command systems give the class area air defence, anti-surface strike, land-attack potential and ASW support roles. It is especially important as an escort and command-capable combatant for carrier and major surface groups.
