The Arafura class offshore patrol vessels are Australia's newer OPV force for maritime security, constabulary surveillance and regional presence missions. The class is intended to replace older patrol assets with greater endurance and mission flexibility, but it remains a patrol platform rather than a frigate substitute. Its value is everyday maritime-domain presence and border/security tasking.
