The Kingston class maritime coastal defence vessels have served Canada in coastal patrol, training, route survey and mine-countermeasure support roles. As the class is progressively paid off, its remaining value is mainly patrol availability, seamanship training and limited MCM support rather than high-end mine warfare or combat. The ships helped cover domestic maritime-security tasks that did not require a frigate.
