Canadian Coast Guard heavy icebreakers support Arctic access, sovereignty-related government operations, science missions and major icebreaking tasks. These ships enable navigation, community resupply support and federal presence in ice-covered waters where ordinary cutters cannot operate. Their value is national maritime access and Arctic support rather than naval combat.
