The Protecteur class joint support ships are Canada's under-construction replenishment and task-group support ships. They are intended to restore organic at-sea logistics with fuel and stores transfer, aviation support and defensive systems for deployed naval groups. Their importance is strategic: without this class, Canada's ability to sustain frigates and future destroyers at distance depends heavily on interim or allied support.
