Besant and Stoker provide submarine rescue, escape and intervention support for the Royal Australian Navy submarine force. Their role is safety-critical: supporting rescue readiness, underwater intervention and specialist submarine-support tasks. They are technical support vessels rather than combatants, but they are important to responsible submarine operations.
