The Santa Cruz TR-1700 class represents Argentina's former higher-end conventional submarine capability. Diesel-electric propulsion, sonar and heavyweight torpedoes made the design significant when operational, but the remaining boat is not a reliable current combat asset. In public capability comparisons it should be treated as reserve or inactive undersea capacity, not as an available frontline submarine force.
