Luyang III Class (Type 052D)

Public description

The Luyang III Type 052D class is the PLAN's main modern air-defence destroyer force. Its phased-array radar, universal vertical-launch system, long-range SAMs, anti-ship weapons, ASW weapons and helicopter facilities make it the workhorse escort for surface action groups and carrier groups. Compared with earlier PLAN destroyers, the class provides a much broader, more repeatable area-defence and multi-mission capability.
