Public description
The Jiangwei-II Type 053H3 class is a legacy PLAN frigate that improved on earlier Jianghu-era designs with better missiles, sensors and escort capability. It served in patrol, anti-surface and coastal escort roles while newer Type 054A frigates entered the fleet. Today it is best viewed as a lower-end or transitional combatant compared with the PLAN's modern frigate force.
