Public description

Wielingen Class Frigate covers Bulgaria's former Belgian Wielingen frigates, represented at class-family level by Exocet, Sea Sparrow, 100 mm gun, ASW rockets, lightweight torpedoes, DA-05/WM-25 radar, SQS-510 sonar, SEWACO IV and EW/decoy systems. The Wielingen class consists of multi-functional frigates originally built for the Belgian Navy and later acquired by Bulgaria. Three ships were transferred to the Bulgarian Navy starting in 2004. Operationally, the class is oriented toward fleet air defence, anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, as well as situational awareness and combat direction.
