The Huon class minehunter coastal vessels provide Australia's crewed mine-countermeasure capacity. Their role is mine detection, classification and disposal in littoral waters, ports and access routes where mines could restrict naval movement. With the class drawing down, its remaining ships still represent specialist MCM capability rather than patrol or combat capacity.
